“You are like a cat.“
"What do you mean?“
"I’m not saying it like it’s a bad thing. I’m not, and it’s not. And I love cats. And I love you.“
"What do you mean I’m like a cat?"
"Well, you do behave like them most of the time.”
“I fail to see what you mean."
"I am just sitting doing something, watching TV, or reading, or writing a paper, or just by myself, and you force your head on my lap and rub your cheek on my leg until I run my fingers through your hair or caress your scalp.”
“I don’t force my head on your lap!"
"Sherlock, you once took my laptop off my lap and pretty much tossed it away on the coffee table so you could rest your head there and I could run my fingers through your hair.”
“I did not do that!"
"You do it all the time! You follow me around the apartment walking behind me every step I take and you don’t stop until I drop whatever I’m doing to cuddle you on the couch! You can’t deny you do that!"
"I just happen to walk around the apartment while I think and theorize and revise cases on my mind. Walking around the apartment helps me think, You mistankenly suppose I do it because I want your attention. You are the one that drops everything you’re doing to cuddle me, I don’t walk around the apartment with that intention in mind.”
"Sherlock, I often wake up in the middle of the night to find you sleeping on top of me without any particular care if I’m being crushed or not by your weight on me."
"You said you liked it."
"I do! But just so you know, and you should because you’ve been around Toby enough now, that cats behave like that, too.”
"I am not like a cat"
"Sherlock you are like a cat in the way you seek out physical affection from me and there’s nothing wrong with that. I really like it.“
"I am not like a cat, Molly.”
“Need I remind you this conversation started because I was reading and you pushed the book off my hands so you could lay on top of me and be cuddled and fondled? Don’t you think that is the sort of thing a cat would do to get attention?”
“That book was boring you!“
"It wasn’t boring me! I was just having trouble getting into it because I was distracted by someone who was making noises through their nose to call my attention. See? You are like a cat!”
“I am not!"
"You like me to rub your belly or scratch behind your ear until you fall asleep, and when I stop you make disgruntled noises."
"I don’t."
"Sherlock, I said it because I think it is nice and I think it is fitting because you are an independent, smart and proud creature that can very well fend for himself but when you decide you want physical contact and affection you don’t hesitate to let me know so that need can be met. You do have things in common with a cat.”
“Don’t you think it’s a little bit weird that you’re telling me all of this while I have my head on your lap and you’re running your fingers through my hair and scratching behind my ear?”
“No. I think it’s adorable. And so are you.”
